Need-based Financial Aid

We honor your commitment with need-based financial aid, which we make available to students enrolled in Levels 2 or above. The amount of financial aid available in a given year is dependent upon contributions by KC Ballet donors and careful consideration is given to all requests for assistance.

KCB School Performance

Kansas City Ballet School is so fortunate to be able to provide a pre-professional end of year performance for students in Level 2 and above at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Below you will find important information about this event. Details about Hair, Makeup, Uniforms and the Schedule for each class were sent vial email from the School.

KAUFFMAN CENTER

The Upper School Tech, Dress Rehearsal and Performance take place at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (1601 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64108) in the Muriel Kauffman Theatre. If you are not familiar with this area, please take some time prior to the first theater rehearsal to drive to the facility.

Communication

If you need to reach KCBS staff on May 13, 14 or 15 in the afternoon or evening, please call or text (text preferred) 816-516-0207 rather than calling the studio or emailing. Please add this number to your contacts, as we will use this phone if we need to contact you from the theater.

FOOD & DRINK

Typically no food or drinks are allowed backstage. Due to the duration of the time spent at the theater, students have been given permission to bring a snack. Snacks may only be consumed in the hallway outside the dressing areas (not in the dressing rooms). Students should ask their supervisor for permission to eat in the hallway. Bring a water bottle and snacks that are minimally messy and that do not require a fridge, microwave or utensils.

DRESSING ROOMS

Students have designated dressing rooms supervised by KCBS teachers and/or staff.  Teachers will escort students from dressing areas to backstage, and vice versa.

Students must:

  • Follow all instructions given by supervisors
  • Keep voices to a whisper in order to hear announcements given over intercom
  • Keep belongings contained
  • Dispose of any trash
  • Completely clean the dressing area to the supervisor’s satisfaction before any students may depart

BACKSTAGE

Students will receive calls over the intercom instructing them where to be: 1. Level 4 ready in the dressing room, 2. Level 4 to the hallway, 3. Level 4 to backstage

Students must:

  • Follow all instructions given by supervisors
  • Remain silent – there is NO TALKING BACKSTAGE
  • Not touch company props or water jugs that may be present in the backstage hallways
  • Leave plenty of room in the elevator waiting area and not block the doors, letting the people on the elevator off before entering

TICKETS

The School Performance is a ticketed event. Tickets are $30.00 for adults and are $10.00 for teens and $8 for children 12 years old and under (plus fees). All guests, regardless of age, must have a ticket.

Tickets may be purchased online at kcballet.org, by phone at 816-931-8993, Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM.

PARKING

Covered parking is available in the Arts District Garage, directly attached to the Kauffman Center. There are two entrances to the garage: 17th and Central, and Wyandotte between 16th and 17th.

Garage parking is also available at the Webster Garage located at 17th and Wyandotte. Some street parking is available around the Kauffman Center but please do not park in a no-parking zone, even for a few minutes.

Drop off

  • Please arrive promptly at the arrival times listed on the student’s schedule.
  • DO NOT DROP OFF STUDENTS EARLY, as we will not have staff supervision available until the designated arrival times.
  • Students may be dropped off at the “canyon” located on the north side of the Kauffman Center at 16th and Central and should enter through the stage door to check in with KCBS staff.
  • Security will be present here during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Students driving themselves MUST come to the stage door and go through security.
  • Students are encouraged to meet at the Bolender Center and carpool to the Kauffman together so that no one is walking to or from the theater alone.

Levels 4/Int/DT I will wait in the vestibule until another staff member is available to escort them to sign-in on the bulletin board.

Levels Adv/Pre-Pro/DT II/III/IV will receive a pass to show security, allowing them to head to sign-in on the bulletin board. If a student does not have their pass they must wait for a staff member to escort them downstairs.

Pick Up – TECH & DRESS REHEARSAL

Levels 4/Int/DT I will sign-out on the bulletin board and be escorted to the stage door.

Levels Adv/Pre-Pro/DTII/III/IV will sign-out on the bulletin board and proceed to the stage door.

Students must wait inside for their ride to arrive, or along the wall in the canyon if weather and staffing permit.

Students driving themselves may not walk to or from the theater alone and may always ask a staff member or security officer for escort.

Vehicles waiting to pick-up students:

  • Form a single file line on 16th Street facing east.
  • Do not double park.
  • Do not take a spot in the line any sooner than five minutes before your student’s dismissal time.

We hope to follow the schedule as closely as possible, but we may run early or behind depending on various circumstances. Thank you in advance for your patience during this process!

Pick up – PERFORMANCE

Following the performance, students in level 4 and up will be escorted to sign-out at the bulletin board. They will then be released to the lobby to find their parents/guardians. Students in levels 2 & 3 will be escorted to the lobby and must be signed out by a parent/guardian with a teacher.
