Haley Kostas' new work, "Scarecrow" is inspired by the idea of an alter ego, and set to music which Kostas describes as soulful, ominous, and swanky.
"The idea is that you put on this hat, and you become whatever you want, and it gives you the grit that you need to be able to achieve something you thought you couldn't." Says Kostas about her work for New Moves. It's about "escaping into that to see if you could just completely become someone else."
You can see Haley Kostas' "Scarecrow" at New Moves, along with new works from 6 more emerging choreographers.

We are celebrating the first week of Women's History month with a spotlight on Grace Holmes, Kansas City Ballet School Director, retired professional ballet dancer, educator, mother, and administrator.
“My passion for dance started when I was very young (my mother was my first dance teacher). While I was dancing in San Francisco Ballet, I found myself engaged in all kinds of activities and events that helped to bring dance out of the studio and into our community. I have always wanted to share my love for dance and to help people understand and appreciate the intricacies of the art form.”
Grace says her mother is a woman she admires and is inspired by. “She gave me a stable base from which I could take chances, reaching for my dreams to be a professional ballet dancer. She also instilled in me the importance of giving back and helping those who need it.”
Her advice to young women starting out in their careers: “Don't let fear hold you back and plan for the future. But be ready to adapt your plan! You never know what opportunities will come your way and things rarely happen the way you want them to. Take those risks, grab the opportunities, and do what you love!”
Stay tuned to hear from more KCB women throughout Women's History Month!

We are celebrating 40 years with Kevin Amey!
Kevin Amey has served as the company and tour booking manager of Kansas City Ballet since 1983, and was promoted to general manager in 1998. He has had the pleasure of working at length with three of the company’s Artistic Directors Todd Bolender, William Whitener and Devon Carney, as well as Executive Directors Michael Kaiser, Martin Cohen and Jeffrey Bentley, on producing more than 300 works.
His background in the arts began as a young performer, actor, singer, and dancer. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting and directing from Avila College, and a graduate degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in Theatre Arts. He has served a variety of roles throughout his career in the world of performing arts, and has been essential to Kansas City Ballet during his last 40 years here.
Congratulations Kevin!
