JUNIOR SUMMER INTENSIVE (AGES 9-14)

SUMMER INTENSIVE (AGES 12-22)
REGISTRATION 11:30 AM | AUDITION 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM

How to register – Opens November 27
- Complete online audition form
- Attach photos to online audition form (4×6, with student’s name and age on the back)
- Headshot (hair past the shoulders should be pulled back in a ballet appropriate style)
- First arabesque (dancers who have been working on pointe for more than a year, please show first arabesque on pointe.)
- Pre-register for your audition city and pay audition fee of $35 ($40 if paying on-site the day of the audition-please note all audition tour locations are subject to limited capacity based on health and safety protocols. Dancers attempting to register the day of the audition may not be granted a spot in class. Pre-registration is highly recommended.)
Pre-registration will close at 5:00 PM CST on the Wednesday prior to the audition. If you complete the audition form after this time, you may be asked to fill out a paper copy onsite.
Registration will begin 30 minutes prior to the audition class. Please check in with KCBS staff member to confirm your registration and receive an audition number.
The National Summer Intensive Audition
The NSIA professional school collective is offering in-person auditions at their facilities, and students who attend the National Summer Intensive Audition will be considered by all schools in the collective for acceptance to their summer intensives.
How It Works
Students choose a city from the audition schedule and register with the host school. The audition is in-person, and the remaining schools will observe the audition via Zoom or in person. Students are required to follow the safety protocol of the school at which they audition. This may include proof of vaccination. The auditions will be recorded so that the observing schools may review the auditions if needed. Students will have the opportunity to select which schools they would like to audition for, however all schools in the collective may reach out to any students who audition. Students must pre-register and pay the registration fee directly to the host school in the city where they audition. The secondary registration form must be completed in order to be considered by observing schools.

What to wear to the audition
Please choose whichever option you are most comfortable with.
OPTION 1:
Simple, single-colored leotard
Pink or flesh toned tights
Pink or flesh toned ballet shoes
Pink or flesh toned pointe shoes
OPTION 2:
Fitted white shirt
Black, white or gray tights
White or black ballet shoes
AUDITION PHOTOS:
4×6, with the student’s name and age on the back

Video Audition Submission
Due by February 16, 2024
The fee must be received before the audition video will be reviewed. Beginning January 8, audition results will be emailed within 10 business days of the video being received.

- Pay $35 audition fee.
Video Audition
Students unable to attend an audition in person may submit a video for their audition. Please choose one of the following options for your video attire:

Barre work (one side only)
- Pliés

- Degagé
- Rond de jambe
- Développé with fondu
- Grand battement
- Beginner pointe students, please complete center work on flat. Please add a combination on pointe at barre with sous sus and échappé.
Center work (Dancers on pointe)
- Adagio
- Pirouette combination
- Petit allegro
- Grand allegro
Gentlemen, please add:

Junior Summer Intensive
The Kansas City Ballet School’s Junior Summer Intensive is specifically designed with the young dancer in mind. This three-week program offers students a rigorous and comprehensive study of ballet technique and exposure to a broad variety of dance styles. All curriculum in this program is presented in a nurturing and positive environment at Kansas City Ballet School’s South Campus. Students will experience a truly unique program working with members of the Kansas City Ballet’s artistic staff and school faculty.
