KC Ballet Adaptive Dance - Inclusive Dance Classes in Kansas City

The Academy

Adaptive Dance

Where every dancer belongs

At Kansas City Ballet School, we believe dance is for everybody and every body — that’s why our Adaptive Dance Program is tailored to each dancer’s unique needs, making artistry and joy accessible to all our families.

The Adaptive Dance Program offers creative movement classes in an open environment for children and adults of mixed cognitive and physical abilities. Rhythmic activities, guided by our team, stimulate fine and gross motor skills and speech and language development, as well as sensory, visual and auditory processing skills! To ensure every dancer can fully participate, we offer a harness system for those who need additional mobility support. Class sizes are limited.

What Your Dancer Will Discover

  • Discover the joy of movement and creative self-expression in a safe, welcoming space.
  • Build confidence through exploration, play, and the simple pleasure of moving to music.
  • Grow a sense of community and belonging alongside fellow dancers and families.
  • Develop an appreciation and awareness of their own bodies and the bodies of others.
  • Strengthen fine and gross motor skills through joyful, movement-based activity.
  • Support speech, language, and sensory processing through music, rhythm, and creative play.
  • Build routines, focus, and cooperation in a structured, encouraging environment.

Accessibility & Adaptive Features at South Campus

Kansas City Ballet School’s South Campus at Meadowbrook was designed from the ground up with every dancer in mind, not retrofitted for accessibility, but built for it.

Our adaptive harness system provides partial weight support, allowing dancers with a range of mobility needs to experience balance, movement across the floor, and participation alongside their peers, not as an accommodation, but simply as a dancer.

A universal changing table is available so every family can arrive and prepare with ease and dignity.

The fully step-free facility means there are no barriers between the parking lot and the studio for dancers, families, or mobility devices of any kind.
