Students invited to the Pre-Professional Division – Evening will continue studying dance with an increased focus and intensity. Classes for this level meet six days a week.
The Pre-Professional Evening Program offers intensive training to prepare young dancers for a potential career in dance. Our training provides students who are motivated and passionate about dance with a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum.

Hair & Accessories
- Dancers are not to wear undergarments under their leotard and tights. If a dancer needs to wear undergarments, we ask that it be easily concealed by their leotard.
- Hair should be pulled back neatly and secured in a ballet bun, or similar style to the best of your ability. Protective styles are welcome and encouraged as needed for your hair type and care routine, with the shared goal of keeping hair secured and away from the face. To ensure the safety and focus of all dancers, we kindly ask that decorative accessories—such as scrunchies, flowers, bows, and beads—not be worn during class.

Auditions
Students are accepted into the Evening Program by invitation or audition only. In order to be considered for an audition, please send the following items to school@kcballet.org.
Once you have submitted all the below materials, students will be notified by email within two weeks of any next steps in the audition process. Students may be invited to attend an in-person audition at the Bolender Center.

Performance Opportunities
Kansas City Youth Ballet
Pre-Professional students may also be invited to participate in the school’s performing ensemble, Kansas City Youth Ballet. KCYB, under the direction of Kimberly Cowen and Dmitry Trubchanov, produces two performances each school year. Space is limited.
COMPETITIONS
Dancers in the Pre-Professional Program have the opportunity to compete in the Youth American Grand Prix or the Universal Ballet Competition, by invitation only.
End of School Year Performance
All Kansas City Ballet School students have an end-of-the-year performance opportunity in May.
WATCH WEEKS
KCBS hosts two annual watch weeks for families, one in the fall and one in the spring (see the school calendar for dates).
Company Productions
Pre-Professional students have the opportunity to audition for company productions such as The Nutcracker. Casting is at the sole discretion of the Artistic Staff of the Kansas City Ballet.
