Emergency protocols are in place for tornadoes, fire and lock down situations. KCBS staff has been trained so they can best assist students and parents in the event of an emergency. Academy and Summer Intensive students are made aware of these procedures.

During inclement weather, an official decision on the status of classes will be made by 2:00 PM. For Saturdays, decisions will be made either Friday night if possible or early Saturday morning. In the event that we do cancel classes, we will update our website, Facebook page, and voicemail accordingly. Otherwise, please plan to attend classes as normal. KCBS uses the Kansas City Public Schools and Shawnee Mission School District as a guideline for weather cancellations. Please note that though districts may be closed during the day, circumstances may change that allow us to have regularly scheduled classes in the evening. In the event of inclement weather that results in closure of Kansas City Missouri Public Schools, classes for the Daytime Program may also be canceled. Updates regarding the Daytime schedule will be communicated from the school. Please note that there are circumstances that may result in Daytime Program classes being cancelled but evening classes being held as scheduled and vice versa. The exception to this policy is when schools close due to cold weather not snow or ice. If schools are closed due to temperature but road conditions are not hazardous, classes may be held as scheduled. Make-up classes are not permitted in the event classes are cancelled due to weather.

Both campuses offer free adjacent parking. You may also use the Bolender Center’s drop off lane for convenience. The Bolender Center offers a security officer to ensure safety.

At KC Ballet School, we believe dance is for everyone, including adults with little or no dance experience. Our Open Division class schedule is flexible and teens/adults can take as many or as few classes as their schedule allows.
-
While there is no dress code for Open Division classes, it is asked that participants wear athletic clothing that you are able to move in. Ballet shoes are highly recommended for ballet class and tap shoes for tap class.
-
If you are new to dance, consider trying beginner classes, or ask the Open Division staff which classes to attend. If a level is not listed for the class, then all levels of experience are welcome! The Open Division staff are there to help you find what classes fit best.
-
To sign-up for an Open Division class, you can register online or in person. Signing up online speeds up your check in process and reserves your spot in class. Please allow a few extra minutes before the class you plan to take to check in at the front desk. We ask that you arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the start of class.
-
Walk right in or sign up online! It is easiest to register either with the Mindbody app or in-person at the front desk to participate in Open Division classes.
