About the Living Sculptures

We asked Kansas City Ballet’s Second Company dancers to imagine what a modern sculpture would look like if it came alive and could move. Creating continuously changing shapes through smooth and nebulous transitions, these dancers choreographed a unique and beautiful artistic study in three dimensions. Intermittently, you will see two swans become a living sculpture. Imagine walking through a museum and seeing one of Degas’ bronze ballerinas come to life right there in the gallery.

Our two swans represent the duel and opposing roles of Odette and Odile which you can witness in its entirety when Kansas City Ballet presents Devon Carney’s Swan Lake at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Oct. 17-26, 2025. While these dancers take a break, please don’t miss a fun, nostalgic, and upbeat performance in the Crossroads Hotel Atrium at 6:30pm, 7:00pm, 7:30pm, and 8:00pm.
