See How Richard and Gay Used This Tax-Savings Way to Help
Richard Jensen and Gay Dannelly increased their giving to Kansas City Ballet and their other favorite charities when they were required to take a minimum distribution from their IRA. At 70 ½ years old they could receive tax benefits by making an annual gift from their IRA up to $100,000 per person, or $200,000 for married couples. (Note: Amount donation updated per 2024 IRS rules.)
“We started taking distributions from our IRA and then giving to charities. A lightbulb went on when we realized that we could give directly from our IRA and not be taxed on that income,” said Richard.
Settling in Kansas City after retirement, they attended events in support of the Ballet. “We liked the people we met and the things the Ballet were doing, it was natural for us to support the Arts.”
