Amplify Melanated Voices: Whitney Huell

“I know being black is a beautiful thing and something to be proud of. It is so painful to see that some people don’t see that or embrace the idea that being a different color shouldn’t incite hate and injustice. Many times in my life I have felt overlooked, cast aside and underrated while knowing I am beyond capable. This was racism, unconscious or otherwise. Reflecting on those moments is difficult because no one should be judged by the color of their skin. The tragic and senseless deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many others is a disgrace. Police brutality must end. Unfortunately, racism is rooted in other forms including the dance world and must be addressed. Change must come and come soon.”
