Rationality and logical analysis are my most trusted allies. They help me to understand myself and make sense of the world around me. My mind perceives, assesses, and responds, compartmentalizing my experiences and emotions into tidy packages that I carry with me and share with others as I deem appropriate. But inside I harbor wild irrationalities — compulsions, addictions, and fears. There is a disconnect between my rational thoughts and my irrational emotions that defies reason, and the more I attempt to forge a connection, the wider the schism becomes. ‘Reason does not know’ exists in this intermediate state, suspended between rationality and instinct.
