Meet Choreographer Michael Pink
Michael Pink is the longest serving artistic director in Milwaukee Ballet history. Since joining the Company in December of 2002, he has championed the creation new works, presenting more than 50 world premieres including his own full-length productions of Peter Pan, La Bohème, Mirror Mirror, Dorian Gray, and Beauty and the Beast. Peter Pan was broadcast nationally by PBS in Spring of 2014. His production of Romeo & Juliet has also aired on MPBS.
His work has been staged around the world, most recently Dracula was performed during the Olympics in Tokyo.
Pink trained as a classical dancer at The Royal Ballet School and danced with English National Ballet. He worked as a répétiteur for Rudolf Nureyev at the Paris Opera and La Scala Milan. He was the founding director of Ballet Central in London and served as associate artistic director of Northern Ballet Theatre.
In 2019, Pink opened the doors of Milwaukee Ballet’s state-of-the-art new headquarters, Baumgartner Center for Dance, to coincide with the organization’s 50th Anniversary. He is delighted to be working with Kansas City Ballet again.
Meet Guest Stager Luz San Miguel
Born in Madrid, Spain, Luz San Miguel trained at Carmina Ocana Ballet School and on a scholarship at the Municipal Institute of Ballet. She enjoyed a successful career dancing as a guest artist and in Companies internationally, performing leading roles in ballets by John Cranko, George Balanchine, John Neumeier, Nacho Duato, Anthony Tudor, Stanton Welch, Paul Taylor, Lila York, and Jerome Robbins, among others. At Milwaukee Ballet, San Miguel danced leading roles in all of Michael Pink’s repertoire, including Dracula, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Peter Pan, Coppélia, La Bohème, Mirror Mirror, Cinderella, Esmeralda, Giselle, and Romeo & Juliet.
Upon her retirement from the stage in 2018, San Miguel assumed her new role of Rehearsal Director to Milwaukee Ballet.
