Choreography: Ann Reinking
Music: John Kander
Suite Kander is named for the music of Kansas City native John Kander, who has collaborated numerous times with Ms. Reinking. The ballet employs traditional “Broadway” style dance movements layered onto conventional ballet technique, resulting in an amalgam of styles. Reinking, a fan of Kander’s melodic, danceable tunes, says that the piece “has a style that goes hand in hand with what Kander and Ebb have always been attracted to, which is a darker, Brechtian style.”
Kansas City Ballet Premiere: February 18, 1999
