Passion Meets Purpose: Welcoming Kristin Castle

Introducing Kristin Castle, Kansas City Ballet’s new Chief Philanthropy Officer, whose unique blend of artistic passion and strategic leadership makes her an exciting addition to the team. A former professional dancer with a BFA in ballet, Kristin toured nationally with “Footloose” and “The Music Man” before building a dynamic career in fundraising, community engagement, and nonprofit leadership. Now back in her hometown, she brings both heart and expertise to support the Ballet’s mission and its growing community of supporters.

You have a unique background. How did your path as a dancer lead you into philanthropy?

While touring as a dancer and performing eight shows a week, I often organized cabaret-style fundraisers during longer tour stops to support local nonprofits. I loved it! That experience sparked my passion for fundraising. After touring, I worked with the West Side Chamber of Commerce in New York, managing large-scale street festivals to raise grant funds for local causes. My career then took me to Los Angeles, where I worked on major events for both corporate and nonprofit clients, followed by a move to Arizona, where I led the Scottsdale League for the Arts and its culinary festival, raising nearly $4 million in two years for the arts. Eventually, I returned home to Kansas City, where I’ve held leadership roles at several nonprofits, most recently serving as director of development at the Catholic Education Foundation.

What drew you to Kansas City Ballet and this role in particular?

This role brings together everything I love – dance, fundraising, and community. Kansas City Ballet has built tremendous fundraising momentum in recent years, thanks to the dedication of its supporters and leadership. I’m excited to continue that success supporting the Ballet’s dancers and students, building relationships with supporters, and helping to secure resources that will sustain this incredible organization for years to come.

How does your experience as a performer shape the way you connect with supporters of the arts?

As a performer, I understand firsthand how essential supporters are. I’ve been on both sides, on stage and in the audience, so I can connect with supporters through a shared passion for the arts. I also understand the behind-the-scenes realities of what it takes to produce a performance, from dancer training and salaries to costumes and production costs. That insight helps me clearly communicate the impact of every gift.

What do you find most rewarding about helping people plan their philanthropic giving?

The best part is getting to know people, their stories, passions, and what inspires them to give. I love helping supporters create meaningful gifts that truly reflect their values and have a lasting effect. It’s rewarding to see the joy and fulfillment they experience when their generosity strengthens the arts and supports our community.

You toured nationally with “Footloose” and “The Music Man” – any favorite memories from life on the road?

Touring was such a special chapter! I loved seeing the country, performing in beautiful theaters, and connecting with people from all walks of life. And the friendships I made during those years remain some of my most treasured relationships today.
