The Chariot

Choreography: Mussman
Music: Copland

The life of American Poet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) was the theme of this World Premiere production commissioned by Kansas City Ballet.

This work explores the range and possibilities of marrying dramatic narrative with a contemporary abstract form as a vehicle to explore Dickinson’s life, relationships, influences and art. The work seeks to move beyond the preconceptions of Dickinson’s poetry, her life and her time period into a place where true insight and understanding take place.

The creation of this ballet was supported by a 2001 Choo-San Goh Award for Choreography from the Choo-San Goh & H. Robert Magee Foundation and a generous grant from the H&R Block Foundation.
