Choreography: Robert Hill
Music: Lowell Liebermann
Lowell Liebermann’s Piano Concerto #2 includes many levels of temperament with abrupt meter, tempo and thematic changes. That is what attracted Robert Hill to the music. The choreography follows no story line or narrative, but was created as a visual equivalent that complements the music.
The music was commissioned by the Steinway Foundation in commemoration of the 500,000th Steinway piano built, and premiered in 1992 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D. C. with pianist Stephen Hough and the National Symphony conducted by Mstislav Rostropovitch.
Music by arrangement with Theodore Presser Music Inc., publisher and copyright representative.
