Choreographer: Paul Taylor
Music: Various
Set to the lighthearted and fun loving tunes of The Andrews Sisters, this dance uses the jitterbug, waltzes and polkas that were the social dance scene in 1940s America to explore the realities of the times. Taylor skillfully expresses not only the good time feeling of the songs and dances of the day, but also mixes the dances with images of the soldiers and the hardships they and their families faced during World War II. The choreography sensitively expresses the trepidation of war and the powerful emotions that surround living within its reality.
World Premiere: June 1991 by Houston Ballet and October 1991 by The Paul
