Cloud Chamber

Choreography: Baker
Music: Harrison

A cloud chamber is an apparatus used by scientists to detect interactions between particles. A cloud is formed when two charged substances interact within the chamber.

Based on this phenomenon, the choreography shows a reaction-the interaction and connection between individuals. Humans reflect the most miniscule and the most vast aspects of the universe moving in the same patterns, with the same beauty and mystery that is associated with the natural world.

In Lou Harrison’s Suite for Cello and Piano, the initial sounds of a brewing storm evolve into the roil of a forming cloud and finally transform into the first drops of condensation which mark the irreversible change that has occurred.

This ballet was originally created for the 2001 choreographic work shop In The Wings.
