Lynley Von Engeln

Ballet

Lynley Von Engeln, originally from the Philadelphia area, fell in love with the arts at the young age of 10, when she began taking classes at a local dance studio. New Horizons Dance Alliance, formerly Broadway Dance Academy, gave her the opportunity to study various dance disciplines. Through the direction of George Thompson and Tara Keating, formerly with Pennsylvania Ballet, she developed a strong passion for ballet. At 14 Lynley was accepted into the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts’ dance program and spent her high school career studying ballet and modern under teachers Kim Maniscalco, Amy Lawrence, Yu Hong, and Dana Nederostek. Lynley attended classes and summer programs at Joffrey Ballet, Virginia School for the Arts, STEPS in New York, and Koresh School of Dance. Following a mentor from VSA, Lynley found her way out to the University of Missouri-Kansas City to study under Paula Weber, Ron Tice, DeeAnna Hiett, and Sabrina Madison-Cannon. At UMKC, she danced in numerous pieces including Balanchine’s Valse Fantasies, Antony Tudor’s Dark Elegies, and Paula Weber’s To Each Her Own. As Conservatory Dance Association President, she was responsible for sending UMKC to Regional College Dance Festivals in 2011 and 2012 and organized their trip to the Kennedy Center for Nationals. In May of 2012, Lynley graduated with a BFA in dance began working as a Ballet Instructor and Administrative Assistant at the Kansas City Ballet School. She is happy to be bringing dance into the lives of Kansas City’s dance students.
