Andi Abernathy
Contemporary/Improv/Modern
Andi Abernathy was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She teaches and choreographs all over the country as a partnership with her sister, Stephanie, and they both hold a true passion for the art of dance very close to their hearts. Andi grew up training in the greater Kansas City area at Priscilla and Dana’s School of Dance, and then went on to further her dance education and pursued a degree in Modern Dance as a graduate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. She and Stephanie have been rewarded on numerous occasions for their innovative, dynamic, emotional choreography both on a regional and national level. She has had the privilege of teaching for many outstanding companies all over Kansas City including the Kansas City Ballet, UMKC, and Defy Dance Project. She has also choreographed works for “A Modern Night at the Folly,” Kansas City Ballet “New Moves,” “Dance in the Park,” KC Fringe Festival – “Synergy,” Soul de Soul Dance Convention, “Open Stage at the J”, and have been featured on KCPT’s “Arts Upload” television show. Andi has trained many dancers throughout her career that have gone on to become very successful artists, who are a part of such programs as NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Chapman University, Pace University, UMKC, and the hit television shows “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dancing with the Stars.” As a current Co-Artistic Director of both her professional contemporary dance company located in Kansas City called HEARTLINES Dance Company and her pre-professional dance company called Artists Revealed, she stays extremely busy training and choreographing on amazingly talented dancers who continue to inspire her every day.
