A place to call home
There are multiple housing options for out-of-town students.
The KCBS Dorm Housing Package is $3,000 and includes dorms and cafeteria costs.
A non-refundable $500 deposit is required to hold a place in the dormitory.
This deposit is applied toward the total housing cost.
Stay with friends or family
Many students opt to live with a friend or family member during their time studying at the Kansas City Ballet School.
Sublet nearby apartment
If you’re an attending student of the KC Ballet Summer Intensive Program and are interested in subletting, contact Charlotte Mertens at 913-262-0448.
Dormitory
The Kansas City Ballet School Dorm students ages 12 – 18 are housed at the Kansas City Art Institute in their new state of the art dorms. Dorm Housing includes transportation, cafeteria, as well as weekly activities organized by dorm staff.
Supervision
Resident Staff (Dorm Director and Resident Assistants) oversee students with a staff to student ratio of 1:22.
Transportation
Students travel to and from classes by school bus.
Dining
The housing fee includes 21 meals per week. Breakfasts and dinners take place in the KCAI Dining Hall located on the main floor of KCAI Residence Hall. Weekday lunches are made ahead of time and brought to KCB each day.
Floorplans
The newly remodeled dorm room set-ups include quadruple suites, a game room, fitness center, and lounges with TVs on each floor. In addition to these amenities we also include wireless internet and free laundry facilities. No coins needed.
Laundry
The shared living environment requires students to be independent, considerate and responsible. Students are responsible for doing laundry and keeping their rooms and community spaces clean. KCAI offers free laundry facilities on site.
Safety
As part of a larger group, students must act with the community in mind and adhere to all policies set forth for the safety and well-being of everyone.
Group Outings
Group events typically take place on weekends and in past years have included a Kansas City Royals baseball game, Starlight Theatre show, Sporting KC soccer match, Worlds of Fun Amusement Park, shopping at the Legends Outlets and more. Given the current health and safety concerns, group outings are being handled with caution and have not been solidified for the 2021 Summer Intensive.
Coordinated Events
Optional activities are also provided by the Resident Staff during the program such as a scavenger hunt, movie nights, and a chat with college dancers.
Other Kansas City Activities
The Kansas City Art Institute, where we house Summer Intensive students, is adjacent to the Country Club Plaza, a famous Kansas City shopping district. Other destinations nearby include historic Hyde Park, museums, concert venues, and more.
